Give Your Tunisian Projects Shape, Angles, and a Whole New Level of Design Control

Have you ever looked at a Tunisian project with beautiful curved edges or dramatic angles and wondered how that shaping was possible?

Maybe you’ve assumed it required complex construction or advanced math. Maybe you’ve been working flat Tunisian fabric and felt ready for something more. Maybe you’ve had your eye on the Jester Scarf and haven’t quite known how to tackle it.

Here’s what I want you to know: short rows are not complicated. They are simply a technique—and once you have it, you can shape any Tunisian project you make from here on out.

What Tunisian Short Rows Can Do

Short rows create shaping and angles in Tunisian fabric, allowing you to make curved edges, asymmetrical designs, and dimensional pieces. It’s a versatile technique that opens up garment shaping and sculptural accessories that flat Tunisian fabric simply cannot produce. The technique gives you more design control—and that means more creative freedom.

What You’ll Learn

In this hands-on 3-hour class, you’ll learn how to work Tunisian short rows while creating the Jester Scarf, a fan-favorite pattern with a distinctive wedge shape and graphic angles. The scarf teaches the technique in a manageable one-skein project that you can customize to your preferred length and width.

We’ll cover:

  • How short rows create shaping and angles — so you understand what’s happening in the fabric, not just how to follow the steps

  • The Jester Scarf construction — a beautiful, graphic project that puts the technique into practice immediately

  • Customizing your project — how to adjust length and width to make the scarf exactly the size you want

  • Tunisian simple stitch foundation — if you’re newer to Tunisian, we’ll cover what you need to be fully prepared

Why This Class Works

Short rows are one of those techniques that open a door. Once you understand how they work, you start seeing shaping possibilities in projects you’ve already made, patterns you’ve been curious about, and designs you’ve been imagining. This class gives you that key.

Who This Class Is For

This class is perfect for you if you are an advanced beginner or beyond who:

  • Knows how to make a chain, yarn over, and pull up loops on the hook

  • Wants to go beyond flat Tunisian fabric and start shaping your work

  • Has been drawn to the Jester Scarf and is ready to make it

  • Is ready for a technique that will change how you think about Tunisian design

What to Bring

240 to 480 yards of light worsted weight yarn (the pattern uses Universal Yarn Classic Shades Sequins Lite for comparison). A size H (5.0 mm) Tunisian crochet hook — and bring a few additional sizes in case you need them.

A full-color handout is included with your registration for a $5.00 materials fee. No homework required.

A Technique That Stays With You

For over 27 years, I’ve been helping crocheters build skills that last — with teaching that is warm, patient, and clear, because crochet should feel rewarding at every stage. Short rows are one of my favorite things to teach, because the moment it clicks, you look at Tunisian crochet with completely new eyes.

Let’s get you to that moment.
