The Magic Ring – Starting Circles From the Center Out
I absolutely LOVE the Magic Ring. This technique allows you to create a very tight center opening for a hat, or anything else that you start working in the round from the center out.
Let’s learn how to do them!
1. Wrap the yarn around your fingers
Place the tail of the yarn across the front of your first 3 fingers, then wrap the yarn once around your fingers. Place the working yarn (the yarn that is coming from your skein) behind your hand The working yarn will fall to the back of your hand crossing over to land to the left side of your hand.
2. Pull a loop through
Loosen the loop from your fingers, keeping the working yarn behind the yarn tail. Use your crochet hook to pull up a loop from the working yarn.
3. Now you can start stitching
Now you can start working. Chain however many you need for your turning chain and then start working stitches in the loop. I work over the top of the tail, but you don’t have to!
4. Tighten the loop
Pull the tail yarn to close the ring. And look at that – NO HOLE!
5. Join with a slip stitch
Now slip stitch to join the round!
