Tunisian CAL: Month 4 – The Tunisian Double Stitch

Now that you know the basics, we are going to have some fun with the Tunisian stitches!  This month starts the first of 6 “specialty” stitches.

Tunisian Double Stitch

This simple stitch is worked in a similar fashion to the traditional Double Crochet

Tunisian Double Stitch

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight Yarn
  • Size I (5.5 mm) Tunisian Crochet Hook or size needed for gauge
  • Yarn needle to weave in ends

Gauge:
Approx 4.5 stitches and 1.5 rows = 1 inch (2.5 cm)

Directions: (make 2)
Chain any number +1. (For tote, ch 19)

Row 1: (Part 1) YO, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook, YO, pull up loop, YO pull through 2 loops on hook; (YO, insert hook in next ch, YO, pull up loop, YO, pull through 2 loops) across to end.

(Part 2) YO, pull through 1st loop on hook; (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) across until one loop remains on the hook.

Row 2: (Part 1)Ch 1, skip first vertical bar, (YO, insert hook under next vertical bar, YO, pull up a loop, YO, pull through 2 loops) across to end.

(Part 2) YO, pull through 1st loop on hook; (YO, pull through 2 loops on hook) across until one loop remains on the hook.

Repeat Row 2 for pattern.

Last Row:  Skip first vertical bar, (insert hook under next vertical bar, YO, Pull through both vertical bar and loop on hook) across to end. Fasten Off.
